Tim Duggan writes about the Dangers of Fauxmosexuality mostly citing Katy Perry’s hit, “I Kissed a Girl.” This was on the Sydney Morning Herald’s site a few days ago and Duggan goes on to talk about how confusing it can for young and questioning girls (or anybody really) when faced with this “celesbianism” but also blasts Perry for trivializing sexuality to make a hit song.
Personally, I think Duggan’s a little long-winded about a non-issue. I can see where he’s coming from but he makes it sound like GLBTQ peeps are too dumb to realize when something is only what it is (in this case a pop song) or that the lesbianic turns by Lindsay Lohan are mere publicity stunts. And if it turns out they aren’t, well then yay, welcome to the club. But to imagine some kind of social ramifications of people, or in this case, celebs playing around with sexuality will take away all that the GLBTQ community has worked for is really jut kind of an overwrought thought. It’s not like we haven’t seen this before. Hello? Madonna? Anne Heche? I don’t see many lesbian rehab coming out stories based on those two doing then what these chicks are doing now.
But the article is an interesting read.
