I just came across this Germany-based MySpace page of hardcore punks against homophobia. Check their bio:
Gay.edge.liberation is about promoting Homosexuality in the Punk and Hardcore scene.
Unfortunately this topic is not only a general problem in society but also in the music scene. Particularly in Punk and Hardcore this is seldom appealed. To support all the homosexual, bisexual and transsexual Punks, Hardcore Kids, Metalheads or whatever and to show that they are welcome, it needs the understanding and courage of every single person.
Punk and Hardcore is about being yourself, staying true to yourself and doing whatever you want. But this is complicated for Homosexuals because they are not supported and tolerated.
This MySpace page should only show that homosexual, bisexual and transsexual people are tolerated and accepted in the Punk and Hardcore scene.
Not only homosexual people are welcome on this page, but also bisexual, transsexual and heterosexual people.
Everyone who judge others because of their sexuality and make their sympathy depending on that should seriously think about that!!
Isn’t it an aim of Punkrock and Hardcore that everyone is accepted like he/she is and don’t have to justify him/herself for being him/herself?
These dudes sounds dead serious about getting rid of the phobia in music. Which puts us right behind them. I’m just miffed I missed out on their music sampler which has apparently sold out. They do say a second volume is in the works. The poster for the compilation sounds like its a bad ass CD. In fact, so bad ass that I think the poster alone could kick my ass.

During She-Dick’s reign in Dallas, performer Lacienega had performed with them a few times on stage adding her own salsa flavor to the show. Now, she’s Miss Independent with her very own show at Illusions on Maple Avenue. But dang her poster hurts our eyes.

Laci cracks up her audience with her saucy Latina girl gone wild…who also needs a couple of Valiums as well. As her bio states - “Lacienega exploded onto the scene two years ago in Dallas, TX. After performing with local scene sensation & drag band extraordinare She-DICK, Lacienega began performing regularly at local nightclub Illusions alongside some of Dallas’ most talented & seasoned performers, many of whom instantly expressed their admiration for the explosive Latina Goddess. Born of a local filmaker’s exaggeration of the “typical Mexican girl” he had known so well over the years, Lacienega has evolved from a lampooning caricature to a truly memorable character. With her big hair & big smile, she is quickly capturing the eyes & hearts of all who come in contact with her. Lacienega gathers her inspirations from the great Latina divas Gloria Trevi, Thalia, Olga Tanon, and the exuberant attitude of Paulina Rubio. Lacienega has forged her own unique style amongst the sea of drag-conformity often found in local nightclubs, setting herself apart from makeup to hair to wardrobe. She continues to find inspiration, however, in local drag legends Chanel, Heather Sky, Dallas Sheraton, MacKenzie Storm, Natasha Versace, Sable Chanel, and many others. “These are people that I look up to, and I hope to one day be as great as them - to achieve success as they have, and to master the artform,” Lacienega says. “
That should give you an idea. Plus, she’s such a sweetie with her cutie bear husband that I personally look at them both as baby brothers…oops, brother and sister. You can’t help but love her.

In case you missed the new season debut of Top Chef last Wednesday, more than likely they’ll be replaying tonight before the second episode at 9 p.m. on Bravo. Last week, three openly out contestants created Team Rainbow and by default, we’re on their side. Until they get on our nerves. Besides, its too early to really side with anyone. Give us a few more weeks.
Unfortunately, the team of three is already down to one. Hopefully that doesn’t continue tonight. Admittedly, even if they all get thrown off, we don’t mind tuning in every week for the sheer hotness of host Tom Colicchio.

While we don’t particularly like the F word, we don’t get overly hung up on it to not enjoy Broken Social Scene’s song “I’m Still Your Fag”. A trippy ballad that teeters on WTF to awww. The song gives one much to ponder. Just as you think you understand what the song means, another idea pops in your head. Check out all the pondering here.
However, the video is tender and charming. The emo meets jock high school epic played out over a few minutes of music almost makes you wish it was a movie trailer.
Oh, and they have a whole lot of other songs that are great as well. You’ll get your chance to hear more soon as we just heard the Canadian collective is coming to Big D. BSS hits the House of Blues stage Friday, January 30 with tickets going on sale Friday, November 21 at 10 a.m. Doors at 8 and its all ages. Get yer tickets here or call the HOB box office @ tickets at 214-978-BLUE.

Just came across this soulful rendition of Prince’s hit by Ms. Vial and she kills. To see a local artist command an audience the way she does is reassuring Dallas has a good scene happening. It seems like she owns the stage without even trying to yet screams and shouts and sing-alongs ensue. Ms. Vial may just be actually be a star.
Because she’s oh so awesome, Hint of Mint would like to give you a copy of her DVD “Live in Dallas” recorded at the Granada Theater last year. “Purple Rain” isnot on that one but trust me, the twelve other songs of hers will make up for it in a big way.
Email us at HintOfMintLive@gmail.com with your Deborah Vial pic, story or vid and we’ll repost here. First to be in our inbox will receive a brand spankin’ new copy of the DVD.

Our favorite female detectives cum pop music sensations are making waves in New York now. From on big city to the next, nothing is stopping She-Dick’s rise to stardom. We just received word that today they will be featured on the Gay Pimp’s podcast. And we all know who that is, right? Yes, that would be a Mr. Jonny McGovern who I’m finding to have an obsessive fascination with. No, not like that.
Anyway, She-Dick sends their best:
Dearest friends and fellow Uhmrrkins,
We would love to extend a warm thank you to the Gay Pimp (Jonny McGovern), Linda James, Krunk, and Straighty Martin for a fantastic little chat the other night!!! We had such a great time getting down and dirty with the crew on their Shedickulous podcast!!
For info on how to hear it, go to http://gaypimp. com/index. php/content/view/13/36/
CHECK IT OUT BITCHES!!!!!
XOXOXO
The Ladies of SHE-DICK
And since we’re on the topic of our local gals gone big, if you’re in New York perchance tomorrow, head to Brooklyn to see them perform at Aunts, Brooklyn’s Hottest Dance Party.

Over on H.G. Robert’s MySpace page you can hear “Freedom 2 Love” which is the first single from his upcoming DANCEWORDZ show Taboo. In Freedom, the poet sets his words to some vintage Madonna and challenges the listener to open his and her minds to other perspectives of love. An interesting piece that almost plays like a rap song without the aggression.

And who is H.G. Robert? Well, he’s the founder of DANCEWORDZ where poetry meets ballet but oh so many other things. He’s an award-winning poet, a composer, published author and stageshow creator. Oh and let’s not forget his column Music Talk. Guess what he does there? Oh and he has his own online store
selling his wares to wear like shoes, shirts and more.
Clearly, he’s quite the renaissance man but also pretty busy of late. He just released his USA (United Secrets of America) CD late last month which “includes the complete show and three bonus tracks including “Rock the Vote“, “DANCEWORDZ” and a 10 minute behind-the-scenes interview with creators, Robert & Wayland Anderson. Oh, and is working to open Taboo in 2009.
OK, Mr. Robert, we officially feel bad about ourselves.
